Detection of thickness changes in compressed battery cells

Presented is a device and method for non-contact and spatially resolved measurement of thickness changes in compressed flat lithium-ion battery cells during cycling. This approach can be applied to end-of-line quality control in the production of battery cells. The large amount of measurement data generated is used to quickly and unambiguously assess the quality of the battery cell.
