VentBatt project - Valve-controlled gas management

In the VentBatt research project, the Energy Research Center of Lower Saxony is investigating the behavior of lithium-ion batteries during a thermal runaway. The VentBatt project is researching the possibility of increasing the safety of batteries. In addition to an extended flow concept using foams, experiments are also being carried out specifically with an early discharge of the electrolyte in order to delay the time until thermal runaway.

Curriculum vitae

My name is Timo Reichrath and I completed my Master's degree in Energy and Systems Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology in 2024. Since 2023 I have been working at the Research Center Energy Storage Technologies at Clausthal University of Technology and am doing my doctorate in the field of lithium batteries. The focus is on the safety of LIBs and the investigation of thermal runaway as part of the VentBatt project.
