Summary of the market for Li-ion 46 mm cylindrical hard case cells 2024

In 2023, production of 46 mm cylindrical Li-ion cells began at many companies. Tesla's new tabless design opens the door to solving the thermal and safety issues that have prevented large cells from being widely introduced to the market. The new cells are better suited for high-voltage battery applications such as electric vehicles (EVs) and energy storage systems (ESS) compared to the 18650-21700 jelly roll cells. The presentation will highlight the advantages and limitations of 46mm cells, their developers and manufacturers, and the impact on the market.

Battery safety training

Batteries have become commonplace components in many applications. New, growing areas such as electric vehicles (EVs) and grid storage batteries are expanding traditional battery applications. In the race for energy density, we should not forget about safety - an example of this is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 battery safety case. Unfortunately, we see safety incidents involving injuries and serious damage on a daily basis.

This tutorial focuses on the safety of portable, stationary and automotive batteries throughout the battery life cycle (acceptance, testing, assembly, use, transportation and disposal). The training incorporates the experience of Shmuel De-Leon and other battery safety experts who together represent over 30 years of work in this field. The aim of the training is to provide participants with the necessary knowledge to safely handle batteries in their organization and reduce the number of safety incidents.
