Fiber ceramic foil to protect against thermal runaway

Hot particle jets ejected from the safety valve foil after a thermal runaway (TR) of a lithium-ion battery can damage or puncture the battery housing materials.

WPX has developed a very thin, lightweight and flexible fiber ceramic film to protect the thermal and electrical insulation layers as well as the battery compartment against particle blasting. By integrating WPX BattShield into a multi-layer battery compartment, the conditions of GTR-20 are met by thin, lightweight battery compartments.
