Fiber-ceramic foil for protection against thermal runaway (TR)

Hot particle streams ejected from the rupture disk following a thermal runaway (TR) of a lithium-ion battery can damage or pierce the battery's casing materials.

WPX has developed a very thin, lightweight and flexible fiber-ceramic film to protect the thermal and electrical insulation layers as well as the battery cover against particle flows. By integrating WPX BattShield into a multi-layer battery cover, the GTR-20 requirements for thin, lightweight battery covers are met.
