Current, voltage and insulation monitoring in modern energy systems

In this session of the Battery Experts Forum 2024 in Darmstadt, we will explore important techniques for monitoring current, voltage and insulation. With a focus on current measurement using shunt resistance, we will cover tolerance and temperature effects.

Curriculum vitae

Felix Maximilian Lebeau obtained his Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen from 2011 to 2015, where his work focused on bus analysis in electrical systems of forklift trucks. He then pursued a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from 2015 to 2017, during which time he designed an intelligent scalable battery management system (isBMS).

Since 2014, Felix has been working as a development engineer at Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG. His expertise includes the development of systems, hardware, firmware, functional safety and test systems, specializing in highly integrated, shunt-based current measurement devices for automotive and industrial applications. He was involved in the product conception, design and development of the Functional Safety Platform IVT 3.

He also has experience as a Field Application Engineer at Isabellenhütte Heusler GmbH & Co. KG, where he provided system integration for BMS engineers and technical support for customers in the areas of current, voltage and insulation measurement. Felix is also focused on future technology trends in the integration of current measurement functions. He holds several pending patents, including a sensor for an electrical system with combined shunt module and active insulation monitoring, a current sensing resistor with center tap technology, a redundant three-way measurement principle, and innovations in shunt resistor material design and manufacturing processes.
