How photonic solutions improve battery production

There are numerous steps along the battery production chain in which photonic solutions are used. Some of them are unique in their application, others complement or replace existing technologies with the aim of saving energy and costs. Infrared radiation is commonly used for all types of heating processes and is already implemented in battery manufacturing for drying electrodes and post-drying processes.

However, shorter wavelengths, such as visible light or UV radiation, can also be found in the production chain, for example for curing insulators. We would like to present our latest experimental results on drying and post-drying of electrodes using infrared radiation for lithium and sodium-ion batteries. Using computational chemistry, these experiments are accompanied by simulations that allow us to dive deeper into the molecular processes behind them.

Our model is constantly adapted to the experimental data obtained, which allows us to present our latest findings on the dependence of the peel resistance of the electrodes on the drying conditions. In addition, we provide an insight into current applications of other radiation sources in battery production.
