Scanning system for measuring the coating thickness

We present a new photothermal scanning system for the cost-efficient determination of coating thicknesses on large surfaces with high spatial resolution. The system is particularly suitable for real-time monitoring of coil coating processes or for capturing large and complex coating geometries. For the battery production process, the technology can be used throughout the entire process chain: from electrode production and cell housing production to module and pack production.

Curriculum vitae

In 2012, Dr. Fabian Gaußmann completed his PhD at the Institute for Laser and Plasma Physics at HHU Düsseldorf, where his dissertation focused on the optimization of laser-generated hard X-rays by adjusting the plasma gradient. From 2012 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen, where he was involved in identifying industrial applications for infrared near-field microscopy.

Between 2017 and 2023, he worked as a development engineer and head of the research and development department at LIMO GmbH (now Focuslight) in Dortmund, working on the development of laser lift-off and laser smoothing systems for the display industry.

Since 2023, Dr. Gaußmann has been a development engineer in the Strategic Product Design department at OptiSense GmbH & Co. KG in Haltern am See, where he focuses on the development of photothermal measurement systems for coating thickness measurement.
