THE AUTHORS

DR. MICHAEL BUSER

Dr Michael Buser is managing director of Risk Experts Risiko Engineering GmbH, an internationally operating risk management company with headquarters in Vienna. After several years of working in research in the field of lithium batteries, he was head of R&D and Laboratory Head of Application Technology in a company producing “battery electrodes made of carbon”. As a member of the panel “Property Risk loss prevention committee” (KSSV) and the work group “Fire detection and firefighting and (BEB)” of the German Insurance Association (GDV), he provided expert assistance to the insurance industry in the field of loss prevention for many years. Today, he carries out workshops and training programmes all over Europe in addition to his consulting activities for the subject areas of fire risks and operational risks.

DR. JOCHEN MAEHLISS

Dr Jochen Mähliß is the head of Batteryuniversity GmbH, an accredited testing institute which, among others, is also dealing extensively with the risk potential and the safety risks of lithium batteries. He is an active member of many lithium battery work groups and normative panels. As a hazardous materials manager, he is a competent reference person for all issues concerning the transportation of lithium batteries.
